Google review · January 2019About Hugo Home Improvement
A Bismarck–Mandan remodeling company serving communities across North Dakota — quality first, communication always, no shortcuts.
- Licensed in North Dakota, WSI-insured employees
- Home Builders Association member
- Viktor, our general contractor, is your contact from estimate to check-up
We’re your neighbors, not a call center
Hugo Home Improvement started with a simple idea from our founder, Viktor Goncharov: build the kind of bathroom he’d trust for his own parents. That’s still the standard.
Over the years we’ve completed remodeling and construction projects of every size — shower remodels, bathroom upgrades, basement finishes, flooring systems and, through our sister company, fences. We work for homeowners, landlords, farms and businesses with the same rule: quality first, communication always, no shortcuts.
- Every project starts with a walkthrough and a written scope
- Our own finishing crew; licensed trades assigned by scope
- Viktor, with 14 years of hands-on construction experience, coordinates every job
What we hold ourselves to
Quality over speed
We don’t rush to chase the next job. Shower tile level, basement corners square, floor transitions seamless — it takes time, and the warranty shows we stand behind it.
Transparent pricing
You know the cost up front: materials, labor, permits and site needs. If demolition reveals a surprise, we explain options and get your approval first.
Respect for your home
Before work begins, we agree on the work area, the walkway, cleanup, pets and bathroom access — and stick to it.
Committed to North Dakota
Local to Bismarck–Mandan, and still here after the project. We know freeze-thaw cycles and Missouri River moisture, and we pick materials that handle them.
The team
No call center, no rotating subcontractors. The same small team answers your call, plans the work and shows up on your job.
How we treat your home while we work
You live here while we work. Before work begins, we agree on the work area, access, pets and bathroom availability.
A protected path
Before demolition we agree on how the walkway from the door to the work area is protected.
Dust kept in the work zone
We plan dust protection for your rooms before the first wall comes down.
Cleanup agreed up front
How and when the work area is cleaned up is settled before work starts.
Kids and pets
Before work begins, we agree on the work area, access and where pets stay.
Your only bathroom
If it’s your only bathroom, tell us before we schedule. We’ll discuss which nights the toilet or shower may be unavailable.
Updates the way you want them
We agree on how often you hear from us before work starts. Viktor is your contact for scope and price changes.

Home Builders AssociationWhen we’re not the right fit
Saying no to the wrong job is part of doing the right ones well. Here’s what we turn down — and why.
Projects over $100,000
Our North Dakota Class D license covers single projects up to $100,000. For bigger builds we’ll tell you so on the first call.
Covering up a leak
A new surround or a fresh patch over a wet, moldy wall only hides the problem. We open it up, fix the cause and rebuild it properly.
Skipping the permit
If your project needs a permit, we pull it. We don’t do “no-permit” jobs to save a few days — it can cost you at inspection or resale.
“Start tomorrow, cash only”
We start with a written estimate and a scheduled start date. If you need someone tonight, we’re not the right call.
What North Dakota homeowners say about Viktor’s crew
Most of our Google reviews so far come from fence customers — same general contractor, same standards you get on a shower or basement.

Dinara DidkovskaiaOur old wooden fence was starting to rot and we needed to find a replacement. We called Fence Contractor HHI, and they provided an excellent quote for a vinyl privacy fence. Installation was smooth, and the workers were very respectful of our space. Great job, team!

Rudolph RadovichContracted with HHI to install a 350ft aluminum fence. Pricing was very fair (we solicited several bids) but their responsiveness was what really sold us. They travelled from Mandan to Williston to do the install and completed the job in two days despite having to work around tree stumps, landscaping and my irrigation system. They were very professional and had a solution for every hiccup during the process. Very satisfied with the product, workmanship and service recieved.
